A digital security point of view for the digital business era

Meet the Team — Andy Milton

9 Dec 2020

Welcome to the second instalment of our ‘meet the team’ series, in which we get to know the people behind Hitachi Security Business Group (HSBG) and ask for their insights into the Digital Security sector.

In this Q&A session, we talk to Andy Milton:

What is your role in the business?
As Head of Channels, I run the go-to-market group for the business, focusing on partners and customers.

How long have you worked with Hitachi?
Just over two years.

What attracted you to the digital security side of the business?
The technology is exciting and evolutionary. Identifying a person with accuracy and certainty is key in a digital world and doing that with something that’s part of them and not something that can be borrowed, loan, stolen, guessed or copied is key.

What has changed in the industry since COVID-19?
The awareness of non-contact solutions and also the increased interest in identifying people accurately and not relying on them telling you who they are.

What is the most innovative product to date?
VeinID Five is changing the marketplace and the world, the application and uses for the technology are barely realised yet.

How do you navigate the competitors?
The biggest competition we face is complacency and people being content with the flawed system that is usernames and passwords, as they are not fit for purpose and over 80% of all breaches start with a compromised password.

What do you see as your biggest challenge?
Awareness. I don’t think enough people know what we do and why it’s better than the alternatives. Our challenge for 2020/21 is to get the technology in the mainstream.
